Dobrodružství antických bohů/Adventures of Ancient Gods
Většina z těch, se kterými si na Vánoce dávám dárky, konečně pochopila, že nic neocením tolik, jako knihy, nebo poukázky na ně. Jedním z takových darů bylo i Dobrodružství antických bohů, o kterém si dárce myslel, že z něj nebudu zrovna odvázaná.
Most of the people I give presents for Christmas finally understood that they did not relish as much as books or vouchers on them. One of those gifts was also the Adventures of the Antique Gods, which the donor thought I would not be uncircumcised.
Kniha totiž na první pohled působí hodně dětsky a i podle anotace cílí především na mladší čtenáře.To mě sice nemohlo zastavit, ale rozpačité pocity při předávání zůstaly...

Když odhlédnu od nespočtu ilustrací, vyvedených veselými barvami a krátkých textů, psaných extra velkými písmenky, četbu jsem si užila. Samozřejmě co se týče umělecké stránky věci, byl zážitek trochu slabší, což se dá snadno odpustit: jestli kniha není přímo literaturou faktu, označení populárně-naučná by na ni sedět mohlo.
When I look away from a myriad of illustrations, drawn out with cheerful colors and short texts written in extra large letters, I enjoyed reading. Of course, as far as the artistic aspect of the thing is concerned, the experience was a bit weaker, which can easily be forgiven: if a book is not a literary fact, the popular-educational label would fit it.
Nejen že publikace byla úžasně čtivá, autory musím pochválit hlavně za to, že vybrali bohy a jejich příhody, které se ve starých řeckých bájích a pověstech takřka neuvádějí. Navíc se nebáli začít pěkně od začátku, tedy stvoření světa. A to, že jsem na několika posledních stránkách objevila přehlednou tabulku všech myslitelných bohů a jejich charakteristik, beru už jen jako třešničku na dortu.
Not only was the publication awesome, I have to praise the authors mainly because they chose the gods and their events, which are hardly mentioned in the Greek beauties and fairy tales. Moreover, they were not afraid to start from the beginning, the creation of the world. The fact that I have found a clear table of all conceivable gods and their descriptions on the last few pages, I take as a cherry on the cake.
Kniha je možná primárně určená dětem, ale sama jsem se přesvědčila, že si v ní každý dokáže najít zajímavosti podle vlastního gusta.
The book is perhaps primarily intended for children, but I myself have convinced that everyone can find it in her own taste.
