Neslyšno/Soundless
Jako správný knihomol jsem si některé knihy k Vánocům nadělila sama. Jednou z nich bylo i Neslyšno od Richelle Mead, autorka Vampýrské akademie a série Sukuba. Nějaký čas jsem přemýšlela, jestli jsem koupí neprohloupila, protože jsem zmíněných sérií jsem se snažila zbavit, jak nejrychleji to šlo, ale mile mě překvapila.
As the right booklover I made some books for Christmas alone. One of them was Soundless by Richelle Mead, the author of the Academy of Wamphyri and the Sukuba series. For some time I wondered if I bought it without robbing, because I mentioned the series I tried to get rid of as fast as possible, but I was surprised.
Čekala jsem klasickou fantázií a místo toho jsem se přenesla do vesnice vysoko v horách, úplně odříznutá od zbytku světa. S okolím komunikuje pouze prostřednictvím lana, po které jim z nejbližšího města posílá zásobu výměnou za vyčerpaný drahý kov. Jídla v posledním období chodí stále dál a lidé ve vesnici přicházejí o zrak. Sluch ztrácí už před dávnými generacemi. Mají vůbec ještě nějakou šanci na normální život?
I waited for classical fantasy, and instead I moved to a village high up in the mountains, completely cut off from the rest of the world. He communicates with the neighborhood only through the rope, sending them a supply from the nearest city in exchange for drained precious metal. Do toho si připočtěte hlavní hrdinku Fej. Ano, příběh se opravdu netradičně odehrává v Asii, čímž získal velmi snadno punc výjimečnosti. Dívka je sirotek studující na umělkyni; má starosti starší sestry polovinu slepé a bojí se o jejich budoucnost. Není to ovšem její jediný problém, po zvláštním snu se začne vracet sluch.
Add the main hero to Fej. Yes, the story is really unconventional in Asia, making it very easy to stand out. The girl is an orphan studying an artist; the older sister's worries are half blind and are afraid of their future. But it is not her only problem, after a strange dream, the hearing returns.
Mead mám spojen s romantickou fantázií, ale tentokrát jsem si udělal napětí na každé stránce. Kdykoliv jsem si myslela, že jsem schopna předvídat její další krok a odhadnout zápletku, otočil jsem seznam a všechno bylo jinak. Nečekaný nález obětí hladomoru v opuštěné vesnici, snažil se zachránit vlastní lidi i s nepříznivým odhodláním, nebo jen samotný popis obyčejného dne ve vesnici bez zvuku. Valilo se na mě prakticky bez ustání a současně autorka nikdy nepřekročila únosnou hranici a čtení mě bavilo.
Mead is associated with a romantic fantasy, but this time I've made tension on every page. Whenever I thought I was able to predict her next step and guess the plot, I turned the list and everything was different. An unexpected finding of the famine victims in a deserted village, trying to save their own people with an unfavorable determination, or just the description of a common day in a village without sound. I was practically uninterrupted and at the same time the author never crossed the tolerable boundary and I enjoyed reading.
Nebyla to jediná věc, která mě neslyšnu zaujala. Obyvatelé bezejmenné vesnice používají znakovou řeč a již od první stránky jsem neprokázal jediný příklad řeči. Byl jsem zvědavá, jak dlouho bude Mead vytrží. Nemůžete napsat více než dvacet stránkový román bez použití jediného promluvu! Spletla jsem se: je. A Richelle Mead mi dokázala. Dokonce k jejímu podání působilo naprosto přirozeně, až jsem se divila, že mě nikdy nic takového nenapadlo ...
It was not the only thing that did not listen to me. The inhabitants of the nameless village use sign language and I have not shown a single example of speech since the first page. I was curious how long Mead would take away. You can not write more than twenty pages of the novel without using a single speech! I was confused: it is. And Richelle Mead did it to me. Even to her rendering it was absolutely natural that I was wondering that I had never thought of anything like that ...
Výsledek? Knižka nemám co vytknout. Připravovala jsem se k cituplnému slaďáku a dočkala jsem se něčeho nepopsatelného. Tak si knihu přečtěte sami a dejte mi do komentářů vědět jak se vám líbí ...
